At least 36 people have died in a landslide near a village in the coastal Raigad district of Maharashtra as heavy rainfall over the last two days has caused flooding in parts of the coastal region and hit road and rail traffic. While 32 bodies were found in one spot in Talai, four others were recovered from another location in Sakharsutarwadi village. Fifteen people have been reportedly rescued so far, but over 30 to 35 more are feared trapped under the debris. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.
