Forensic experts identified the remains of a third Mexican student from among the 43 whose murky disappearance in 2014 shocked the country. On the night of 26-27 September 2014, several dozen students from the Ayotzinapa teacher training college had travelled to the nearby city of Iguala to "commandeer" buses to go to Mexico City, where they wanted to participate in a demonstration. Arrested by the police, 43 young people then disappeared and were never found. The authorities had so far accused a drug cartel of mistaking the students for members of a rival gang and having them shot by armed men.
