Aiming reformation and rehabilitation of women prisoners, Bhubaneswar Jharpada jail authorities have started a positive initiative. As a part of this initiative an outlet selling pure and unadulterated food items prepared by jail inmates was inaugurated.

The Director General of Prisons, Santosh Upadhyay, inaugurated this outlet. Food items such as turmeric, gram floor, puffed rice and wheat flour prepared by these women prisoners are being sold at this outlet in the preliminary phase. This initiative has been launched to facilitate social inclusion of these prisoners after they are released from jail.

Apart from this, other development programs in the Jharpada jail are also in progress. To improve communication between the prisoners and their family members during scheduled meetings, transparent glasses will replace the current bars. This along with intercom facility will help facilitate better communication and interaction.
