Cyclone Tauktae has turned into an "extremely severe cyclonic storm" and is expected to hit the Gujarat coast by the evening. As many as 12,420 people from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Raigad districts have been evacuated on the backdrop of Cyclone Tauktae. A total of 3,896 people from Ratnagiri district, 144 from Sindhudurg district and 8,380 from Raigad district have been evacuated, the disaster management department said. Surat airport has shut down all operations till 6 pm today.
