Drugmakers are pushing back against US President Joe Biden’s show of support for waiving patents of Covid-19 vaccines.

Research-based pharmaceutical companies say such a move could disrupt a fragile supply chain… and that rich countries should instead share more with the developing world.

The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations on Thursday said waiving intellectual property rights for Covid-19 vaccines would invite new manufacturers that lack essential know-how to crowd out established contractors.
