TD GARDEN - Brad Stevens was interviewed postgame following the Celtics’ 145-136 win vs the Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime. Stevens commented on Tatum’s 50-point game, Kemba Walker’s play, and Marcus Smart’s role as a leader.
Jayson Tatum exploded for a 53-point performance, notching his career-high. “Don’t mistake his quiet demeanor for not being a competitor. He’s a competitor,” said the coach on Tatum. Stevens also mentioned that Tatum has improved his ability to get to his spots this season. “He’s grown in his ability to seek great shots.”
Stevens also talked about Kemba Walker during his interview. Despite his struggles, he said that “he’s who he was when it mattered most and knocked down big shots in overtime.” Walker played a crucial role in overtime for the Celtics.
Coach even went as far as comparing Tatum to one of the biggest fan favorites of all-time - Isaiah Thomas. “It was a lot like what I recall about Isaiah on so many occasions,” said Stevens on Tatum, “he just wouldn’t let us lose.”
