Chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus) are birds that are usually kept by people to be used for the living needs of their keepers. Domestic chickens (hereinafter simply "chickens") are direct descendants of one of the subspecies of partridge known as red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus) or bangkiwa fowl (bankiva fowl). All chickens were theropods like tyrannosaurs. Cross-breeding between chickens has produced hundreds of superior or pure lines with various functions; the most common are chicken (for slaughter) and layer hens (for eggs). Ordinary chickens can also be cross-bred with their native relative, the green jungle fowl, which produces sterile hybrids whose males are known as bekisar.
