Meaning:
Om Namah Shivaya is a mantra that collects the essence of all spiritual teachings. It can concentrate divine power in one place.

OM is the principle of universality, of coming to be, that is, it is a trigger
NAMAH is greeting, congratulations.
SHIVAYA is Consciousness, Foundation of Being.

"Hari" means "the remover." When someone remembers His name and repeats it, sins, karmas and bad astrological effects are erased. Suffering and pain are removed.
"Om" is the primordial cosmic vibration that extends throughout the cosmos and all of creation. Its essential meaning is that Hari is Om. "Hari Om" is a universal mantra that removes suffering, contains in itself the cosmic vibration. Through Hari Om meditation, prana moves from one energy center to the other.

Om: Represents the supreme and immutable truth, Brahman. It alludes to the divine creation and all its expansion coming from God.

It is the most important mantra in relation to the god Shiva, a divinity that symbolizes the destructive but also regenerating concept of the world.
The five syllables they speak of signify the five elements that the human body is made of. They would be earth, fire, air, water and ether.
By being recited constantly, it manages to mix with the air we breathe, thus reaching our minds and hearts, vibrating in each of the cells of our body.
