Considering the way the central government has said to increase disinvestment in government companies in recent times, the opposition has said many times that the government will privatize the railways as well. केंद्र सरकार ने हाल के दिनों में जिस तरह से सरकारी कंपनियों में विनिवेश बढ़ाने की बात कही है उसे देखते हुए विपक्ष कई बार कह चुका है कि सरकार रेलवे का भी निजीकरण कर देगी. मंगलवार को रेलमंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने लोकसभा में रेलवे के निजिकरण को लेकर लगाई जा रही सभी अटकलों पर विराम लगा दिया. रेल मंत्री ने कहा कि रेलवे का कभी भी निजीकरण नहीं किया जाएगा
