Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on the life of Gangubai Kathewali, a brothel owner in Mumbai's Kamathipura area. The teaser for the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film dropped on Wednesday and gave viewers a glimpse into the life of the powerful woman that Alia Bhatt is all set to portray onscreen.

संजय लीला भंसाली की अपकमिंग फ‍िल्‍म गंगूबाई काठियावाड़ी में बॉलीवुड की क्‍यूट गर्ल कही जाने वाली आलिया भट्ट लीड रोल निभा रही हैं यानि आलिया इस फ‍िल्‍म में गंगूबाई काठियावाड़ी के रोल में। इस फिल्म के टीजर में आलिया भट्ट काफी दमदार अंदाज में नजर आ रही हैं। फिल्‍म की कहानी मुंबई माफिया की क्‍वीन कही जाने वाली गंगूबाई कोठेवाली की असल कहानी पर आधारित है। उसे लोग गंगूबाई काठ‍ियावाड़ी भी बुलाते थे।
