‘Iron Lady of Manipur’: 44-year-old Irom Sharmila gave birth to twin girls on Mother’s Day in Bengaluru. She got married to her long-time partner Desmond Coutinho, a British national in 2017. The ‘Iron Lady of Manipur’ went on a hunger strike in 2000 demanding the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act or AFSPA in Manipur. She broke her fast 16 years later on August 9, 2016.
