Governments of several countries including New Zealand and the United States as well as the United Nations have called on the Myanmar military junta to reinstate democracy in the country.

The United States Department of State wanted the junta to relinquish power while the New Zealand government has decided to suspend all high-level political and military contact with Myanmar.
