Stagnation is a period in an economy where there is little or no growth. It occurs when an economy's total output declines, grows slowly, or remains flat. It is highlighted by periods of unemployment, reduced job growth and flat wages. Stagnation, which hits the purchasing power of the people, can also lead to severe poverty.
