Lisa Nandy has condemned President Trump after protesters stormed the US Capitol in Washington. The shadow foreign secretary called on the President to "accept responsibility for what has happened", adding: "this is the legacy of toxic politics of hate and division". The Labour MP said that the UK needs to "stand up" and "lend its voice to efforts to stop these protests". Four people died on Wednesday during the protests which occurred while Congress was in the process of certifying the Electoral College vote from November's presidential election. US lawmakers have now certified Joe Biden's election victory, forcing President Trump to commit to an "orderly transition".
