President Ram Nath Kovind extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of the New Year on Friday, and expressed hope that the "country will march ahead to achieve progress". Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, extended greetings to the nation on the New Year, and expressed hope that the people of the country will move ahead with the "spirit of hope, and wellness will prevail in 2021".
