가상공간에서 뇌수술까지 연습…코리아 VR 페스티벌 개막

Have you ever imagined practicing some virtual brain surgery or seeing a virtual version of your favorite animal up close without having to go to the zoo?
Well, if you have, Virtual Reality can now make that happen.
Jang Tae-hyun has the details.
An array of innovative virtual reality technology all in one place.
South Korea's science ministry is holding the 'Korea VR Festival 2020' from Thursday until Saturday at COEX in Seoul.
On display are virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies which come under the category of extended reality.
"Around 140 companies have put up displays at the exhibition to show off their latest VR and AR technology. This can be used in the field of medicine, education, entertainment and more."
One researcher is showing how this piece of medical equipment works.
It can be used to carry out operations on the spine, the brain and even patients with breast cancer.
"It's called VR-based image-guided surgery. It helps doctors to see parts of the body which they usually can't and guides them through the procedure."
With AR-based story books, children can learn new words.
When they choose an animal, for example,... its image will pop up on screen and they can see what it actually looks like.
In this booth, people can drive a virtual vehicle and experience a car crash... to remind them of the dangers when getting behind the wheel.
This company is using mixed reality technology for entertainment purposes.
The screen detects the player standing in front of it.
Extended reality can be used in almost every field.
Engineers can provide repair instructions to people on the opposite side of the world.
Amid the pandemic, this event was held safely while also trying out new safety measures.
"With this sticker on your hand, it checks your temperature. If you have a fever, the color changes to red and you should leave."
The whole event will be turned into a 3D video and uploaded to the Korea VR Festival website from December 17th to 19th.
