About 850 mineworkers have staged an underground sit-in at Kopanang Gold Mine in Klerksdorp. They accuse the mine owners, Village Main Reef of halting pension contributions to the workers' provident fund. That's despite deducting the contributions from the workers' salaries. Other workers are picketing at the mine's gates. The workers also accuse VMR of reversing the workers' benefits without consulting the unions.
