Very severe cyclonic storm Nivar has weakened into a severe cyclonic storm, the IMD said. The agency went on to add that the centre of Cyclone Nivar lies over land and crossed the coast near Puducherry around 2.30 am. The IMD has said that the very intense convection of Cyclone Nivar over Puducherry is weakening gradually. While rainfall will continue, the intensity of the rainfall will decrease, the agency added. For Chennai, the IMD said that convective clouds and squall line are passing across Chennai in regular intervals causing intermittent showers.
