Although independent scientists caution against hyping early results before long-term safety and efficacy data has been collected, the positive news comes as global Covid cases topped 50 million and health authorities estimating the actual number to be at least twice as many.

South Korea on Tuesday reported 100 coronavirus cases.
71 of those were local infections, mostly from the greater Seoul area.
It's the third day in a row that the number of infections has been in triple figures.
The current social distancing measures remain on level 1, but health authorities warn that should the numbers keep going up, they could raise the distancing level up a notch to 1-point-5.
Globally, Coronavirus infections as of Sunday surpassed 50 million.
And a quarter of those infections have come in the last month.
But the actual number of cases is most likely even higher.
Health authorities estimate that once asymptomatic patients and unreported cases are included, there could be at least a 100 million cases.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, the Deputy Director-General of South Korea's Central Disease Control Headquarters put this a different way.
"If you think about it, one in every hundred people have been infected or are infected with the virus."
And with winter approaching, experts say that the second wave of the coronavirus will only grow stronger.
