The number of coronavirus infections worldwide topped 50 million on Sunday, according to a Reuters tally, driven by surges in the United States and Europe.

October was the worst month for the pandemic so far, with the U.S. becoming the first country to report more than 100,000 daily cases.

Former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CBS's Face the Nation that Americans should be extra cautious as they prepare to gather for the Thanksgiving holiday at the end of November.
