President Moon Jae-in has vowed to communicate with the new, incoming Joe Biden administration.
Stressing South Korea's unwavering commitment to realizing peace on the Peninsula,... President Moon also expresses hope for new opportunities in inter-Korean relations.
Our Blue House correspondent Kim Min-ji reports.
President Moon Jae-in says South Korea will communicate closely with the Joe Biden camp on various fronts,... and make sure that there is no break in the alliance or in the Korean Peninsula peace process.
That came in a meeting with his top aides on Monday Moon's first verbal statement regarding Biden's victory after offering his congratulations via Twitter the day before.
We will make sure that there is no vacuum in the strengthening of the South Korea-U.S. alliance or in the progress for peace on the Korean Peninsula. We will do our best to make sure the achievements made so far with the Trump administration are carried over and developed further with the incoming government.
Moon said based on experience and the accomplishments made so far... Seoul will seek progress in denuclearization and establishing peace on the peninsula.
He also expressed hope of fostering an environment for new opportunities in inter-Korean relations.
In line with strong coordination between South Korea and the U.S., I hope the two Koreas, as direct players of Korean Peninsula affairs, will be able to play a more important role.
Moon also called for continued efforts between the allies on the economic front, especially... highlighting their shared goals of carbon neutrality and tackling climate change.
He also vowed to work with Biden on shared values, such as democracy, peace, human rights,....as well as on global issues, such as COVID-19.
In the meantime, President Moon has pledged continued cooperation with the Trump administration until the very end, including the foreign ministers' meeting scheduled for Tuesday in Washington.
