RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks on reservation sparked a political row on Monday, August 19. Bhagwat was speaking at the concluding session of Gyanotsav, an event organised by the RSS on competitive exams when he said, “There should be a conversation in an atmosphere of harmony between those in favour of reservation and those against it.” Bhagwat’s statement sparked political row with the Congress alleging that the BJP and the Sangh were having an anti-Dalit mindset and conspiring to end quota in the country. Hitting out at critics, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh reiterated that the outfit supported reservation for Dalits, backwards and economically weaker classes.
