The number of COVID-19 cases in India crossed the 50000 mark. As on May 7, the number of confirmed cases now stand at 52952 with 1783 deaths. This comes four months after the first patient was found positive in Kerala. The last three days saw a spike in cases with 10000 people testing positive. The biggest spike was reported on May 5 – 3900 cases in 24 hours. More than 15000 people have recovered from the deadly virus. On May 7, the recovery rate of patients stood at 28.71 per cent. Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country with 16,758 cases. 1233 cases were reported in the last 24 hours with 34 deaths. Mumbai has crossed the 10000 mark. Gujarat has the second highest number of cases in the country. The state reported 6625 cases with 380 new cases and 28 deaths. Delhi has reported 5532 cases with its biggest single-day spike of 428. Tamil Nadu reported 771 new cases in the last 24 hours taking the state’s total to 4829 cases. Kerala reported no new case on May 6. As per the Health Ministry, West Bengal numbers on May 7 stand at 1456 and 144 deaths with 112 new cases. The nationwide lockdown is currently in its third stage and will end on May 17. Meanwhile, Telangana has extended the lockdown till May 29.
