COVID-19 cases in India crossed 2.5 lakh on June 7. The number of confirmed cases has reached 256611 with 7135 deaths. The country recorded a daily jump of COVID-19 cases by over 9,000 for the fifth straight day. Maharashtra registered 3,007 new cases in the last 24 hours. The financial capital of the country remains the worst-hit state in the country with 85,975 cases. More than 3,000 people have died in the state. Maharashtra has now surpassed China's COVID-19 tally of 83,036 confirmed cases. The total number of cases in Tamil Nadu is 31,667, including 269 deaths, according to the Health Department. Delhi, which is also witnessing a spike as people resumed regular activities has 27654 confirmed cases with 761 deaths. In Gujarat, the numbers have reached 20,070 with 1249 deaths. Uttar Pradesh recorded the second-biggest spike in cases with 433 new patients that took the total to 10,536 and 275 deaths. The numbers in West Bengal now stands at 8187 with 396 deaths. The coronavirus pandemic has killed 4,00,000 people in the world since it emerged in China late last year, according to an AFP tally of official sources. While almost half of the deaths have been recorded in Europe (183,428), the United States remains the hardest-hit nation with 109,802 deaths from 1,920,061 cases. Britain is next with 40,542 deaths, followed by Brazil (35,930), Italy (33,846) and France (29,142).
