National Doctors' Day is observed on July 1 every year in honour of the great physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on July 1, 1882, and died on the same date in 1962. The day, therefore, celebrates Dr Roy's birth and death anniversary. Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy was also the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. He was conferred with the honour of Bharat Ratna, on February 4, 1961.
