VIVO has pulled out as the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for this year’s edition. This comes amid backlash on social media. VIVO had paid Rs 2,199 crore for a five-year contract in 2018. BCCI on August 2 had announced that all sponsors were being retained, but VIVO pulled out following criticism on social media in the backdrop of the clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh in June. The Indian cricket board on August 2 had announced that the 2020 season will be played from September 19 to November 10 in the United Arab Emirates. IPL 2020 will be held at three venues in the UAE -Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi - subject to government approval. Meanwhile, reportedly, Weibo and Baidu Search, two of China’s biggest apps that were called the alternatives to Twitter and Google Search, have been blocked in India. They will be taken off the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
