As many as 743 staff of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) including some priests of the Lord Venkateswara shrine at Tirumala have tested positive for coronavirus. Three have succumbed to the virus since June 11, a top TTD official said on August 9. About 402 personnel have recovered so far from infection while 338 people were undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 care facilities here, TTD executive officer Anil Kumar Singhal told reporters. The famous Lord Venkateswara temple in nearby Tirumala governed by the TTD had re-opened on June 11 for public after being close for two and a half months owing to the coronavirus-induced lockdown. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple in Uttar Pradesh's Vrindavan was sealed on August 11 after 22 people, including priests tested positive for coronavirus. Meanwhile, Delhi on August 10 recorded 707 fresh coronavirus cases, pushing the tally past the 1.46 lakh mark. Death toll in the national capital from the disease mounted to 4,131 after 20 fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours, as per the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department. Delhi’s virus recovery rate has crossed 90 per cent mark, as out of total 1,46,134 cases recorded so far, 1,31,657 people have recovered, discharged or migrated. Delhi has total 10,346 active cases, out of which 5,637 cases are being treated in home isolation.
