International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is celebrated every year on 26 June. Initiated by the UN on 12th December 1997, this day aims at total eradication of torture. It was this day in the year 1987 when the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, came into effect.
