During the nine days of Navratri, devotees worship different forms of Goddess Durga. Devotees keep a fast in these nine days to get the special blessings of Mother Durga. During the fast, there is a law to worship nine girls on the eighth day of Ashtami.

नवरात्रि के नौ दिनों में मां दुर्गा के अलग-अलग नौ स्‍वरूपों की भक्त आराधना करते हैं. भक्‍त मां दुर्गा की विशेष कृपा पाने के लिए इन नौ दिनों में व्रत रखते हैं. व्रत के दौरान अष्‍टमी यानी कि व्रत के आठवें दिन नौ कन्‍याओं का पूजन करने का विधान है.
