Deserted beaches, boarded-up bars and closed hotels have left Thailand’s resort island of Phuket resembling a ghost island. As of September 30, 2020, the nation’s prime tourist hotspot was devastated by the coronavirus pandemic and there was little sign that holidaymakers would be returning soon.
