고래 270마리 호주 태즈매니아 해변에 갇혀...구조 작업 진행
Around 2-hundred-70 pilot whales were found stranded on Monday, off the west coast of Australia's southern island of Tasmania.
About one-third of the stranded whales have already died, but a wide-scale rescue operation is ongoing, to try and save the remaining beached whales.
Pilot whales are a species that can grow to be seven meters long and weigh up to three tons.
They're also known to be frequently involved in mass strandings.
Such incidents are unfortunately not uncommon in the area the last large-scale stranding off Tasmania's coast happened in 2009.
This can happen for various reasons, including misadventure, shallow waterways, or even a flight response from a perceived threat.
