The 2017 Doklam crisis which played out between China and India in a part of Bhutan located east of Sikkim ''appears to have shifted China's strategic objectives, with China more than doubling its total number of air bases, air defence positions and heliports near the Indian border over the past three years".
एनडीटीवी ने वैश्विक खुफिया निगरानी संस्‍था Stratfor की रिपोर्ट के हवाले से बताया है कि चीन भारत से लगे वास्‍तविक नियंत्रण रेखा पर 13 बिल्‍कुल नए सैन्‍य पोजिशन बना रहा है। इसमें तीन एयर बेस, 5 स्‍थायी एयर डिफेंस पोजिशन और पांच हेलीपोर्ट शामिल हैं। इनमें से 4 नए हेलीपोर्ट का निर्माण मई में लद्दाख संकट की शुरुआत के बाद किया गया है।' भारतीय सीमा पर चीन के सैन्‍य विस्‍तार में एयर बेस का निर्माण, इलेक्‍ट्रॉनिक वॉरफेयर सुविधा, हेलीपोर्ट और एयर डिफेंस स्‍थल शामिल हैं।
