Another double digit tally of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea on Tuesday.
Despite the slowdown in recent days,... health authorities remain on alert with cluster infections continuing to sprout up... and an extended national holiday period that starts in just over week from now.
Lee Kyung-eun reports.
South Korea reported 61 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday: 51 local and 10 imported.
This marks the third consecutive day that the figure has stayed below one hundred,... following 37 straight days of daily infections in the triple digits.
The number of daily cases has now fallen every day since last Thursday.
The country's recent outbreak appears to be stabilizing, just as the government expected after it imposed the strengthened 2-point-five distancing measures.
"We are witnessing the effects of the distancing and the virus being contained.
We are confident that the public's efforts will be reflected by positive results in the next week and the week after."
However, health authorities remain on alert, amid a series of cluster infections.
In Seoul, 13 patients have been confirmed from a multi-level marketing company in Gangnam-gu District, and another 10 cases have been reported in a fitness center.
And a potentially large cluster infection could be emerging in a university in Busan, where at least 12 patients have been confirmed so far.
Untraceable cases still account for more than 25 percent of total.
Amid all these, health authorities are especially concerned about the country's upcoming thanksgiving holiday.
"The top priority during the Chuseok holiday is controlling the outbreak. Large-scale movement of people will be the reason for the spread of the virus nationwide."
Health authorities are planning to announce specific virus prevention guidelines for the holiday season this Friday.
