Belarus protest continue, Aleksandr Lukashenko, who has often been called "Last Dictator in Europe" was elected for his sixth term as the President of Belarus. The announcement that Lukashenko had won an overwhelming 80 percent of the vote was met with protests across the country, most notably in Minsk. For three nights, beginning on the night of the election, the police aggressively crushed the largely peaceful demonstrations with tear gas, stun grenades, rubber bullets and batons. At least 200 protesters have been wounded, some seriously, and 6000 detained. International condemnation was swift and wide-ranging. The election was dismissed by much of the world, including the United States.
