트럼프 "코로나 백신, 3∼4주 안에 나올 것"
U.S. President Donald Trump raised hopes about swift U.S. approval for a coronavirus vaccine, claiming that the shot could be ready within three to four weeks.
Speaking in a town hall event hosted by ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, Trump defended his handling of the coronavirus crisis, and said a vaccine could be ready for distribution, but did not specify when the FDA would give the greenlight or what vaccine could be approved first.
Trump's latest timetable is far more optimistic than estimates by drug industry experts, including National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci.
Fauci previously said to expect a vaccine approval closer to the end of the year with broad distribution next year.
Public health authorities have raised concerns the White House is pressuring the FDA to approve a vaccine before the U.S. presidential elections on November third.
