Sarv Pitra Amavasya is on 17 September. This is the last day of Shraddh. Hence it is considered as the day of the fathers' farewell. According to the scriptures, it is said that on this day shradh karma is performed for those fathers whose death date is not known. Apart from this, if someone has forgotten shraddh, then his shradh is performed on this day.

सर्व पितृ अमावस्या 17 सितंबर को है। यह श्राद्ध का अंतिम दिन होता है। इसलिए यह पितरों की विदाई का दिन माना जाता है। शास्त्रों के अनुसार ऐसा कहा जाता है कि इस दिन उन पितरों का श्राद्ध कर्म किया जाता है जिनकी मृत्यु तिथि ज्ञात नहीं होती है। इसके अलावा यदि किसी का श्राद्ध भूल गए हैं तो इस दिन उनका श्राद्ध किया जाता है।
