Nine people have been rescued by firefighters following a blaze at a Hartlepool flat in the early hours of the morning.

Cleveland Fire Brigade crews were called to a fire at a flat on York Road at 7.14am on Monday, September 14.

Five engines attended the scene from Billingham, Hartlepool and Stockton.

Nine people rescued from the flat by firefighters, the fire service has confirmed.
