A British boxer has been feeding stray dogs in Thailand after the Covid-19 restrictions have left them hungry.

Michael Long, 33, buys 20kg of dog food each week which the then gives to the pooches in Krabi province in the south of the  country.

The dogs would normally be well-fed by tourists, or they would pick up scraps of food from street food stands and restaurants, catering to visitors. 

However, travel restrictions put in place since March have banned holidaymakers.

Footage from Friday (Septembr 11) shows how the kind sportsman, Michael, rides his motorcycle and carefully gives food to the needy animals each day.

Michael said: "The  pandemic has turned Krabi into a ghost town. There are many stray dogs that need to be fed and cared for. 

''If we feed them, it keeps them happy and they're good dogs. If we don't feed them, they're hungry, they get sick, they get infections and they bother people and they become dangerous.

''If they're fed every day and have human contact they have less fear for humans then, so everyone can live peacefully.''

Michael used to take part in Muay Thai fights on most nights, but since the pandemic, he has had plenty of free time.

He has been feeding the dogs for the previous three months with donations made by the locals, which makes him ''very happy''.

Michael added: ''I love them. I love to do what I do.''

Many regions in Southeast Asia have a huge stray animal problem, mostly cats and dogs, in urban areas.

There have been repeated cases in Thailand of them attacking visitors.
