Well, that is what this day is all about; raising awareness regarding this, so that more people will be safe and protected. It is also important to recognize that all animals and creatures play an important role in the circle of life, whether they are harmless or not.

विश्व मच्छर दिवस की शुरुआत 20 अगस्त 1897 में हुई। लिवरपूल स्कूल ऑफ ट्रॉपिकल मेडिसिन के ब्रिटिश डॉ. रोनाल्ड रॉस ने इसी दिन खोज की कि मलेरिया के संवाहक मादा एनॉफिलीज मच्छर होते हैं। बाद में उनके प्रयास से मच्छर जनित बीमारियों की रोकथाम और उपचार के लिए दुनियाभर में अभियान चले और मलेरिया से हजारों लोगों की जान बचाई जा सकी। इसी योगदान के लिए उन्हें 1902 में चिकित्सा के लिए नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित भी किया गया था।
