Malaysians in Singapore rush home to avoid quarantine in designated facilities

Many Malaysians in Singapore have changed their plans at the last minute after the Malaysian government announced this week that those returning from Friday (July 24) will have to serve a 14-day quarantine period at hotels or quarantine centres.

They can no longer be quarantined at home and they must also bear the full cost of the stay during the quarantine period.

The government made the decision after many returnees had failed to observe the standard operating procedure during home quarantine, and this had led to a surge in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia.
