MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the implications of the abolishing the death penalty for the 11 offences must be viewed separately.

He said there should not be a blanket attempt by the government to abolish it all together.

He said the government should also take into consideration of a survey which showed that 78% out of 22,000 individuals polled were against abolishing the penalty.

On Thursday (July 4), Minister is the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong said a Bill will be tabled in Parliament in the coming week to abolish the mandatory death penalty for 11 serious offences.
