Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin said the Government will repeal the controversial Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, but could not commit whether it could be done during this parliament sitting.

An NGO comprising of more than 400 families of those detained under Sosma handed a memorandum to Mohamed Hanipa Thursday morning, requesting section 13 to be amended, to allow bail for detainees under the act.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah, who supported the move, said detainees who have been released should be given rehabilitation because there were many reports of alleged beat-up and torture.
