The Khon dance is no stranger to tourists when visiting Thailand. It is a costumed stage play that flirts between an aura of mystery and intrigue. Khon (Thai: โขน) is traditionally performed solely in the royal court, by men in masks accompanied by narrators and a traditional piphat ensemble. A variation of this genre with female performers is called khon phu ying (โขนผู้หญิง). Megan Tan was at Charan Sanitwong in Bangkok to look at the art of Khon mask making.
