It is actor Sridevi's 57th birth anniversary today. Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan on this day in 1963 in Tamil Nadu, Sridevi is regarded as the first 'female superstar' of Indian cinema. In a career spanning over five decades, Sridevi acted in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada movies. Considered a versatile artiste, Sridevi appeared in a range of films -- from masala movies to gripping thrillers. For her contribution to cinema, she was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 by the government of India. Apart from this honour, she had one National Award, multiple Filmfare Awards, Tamil Nadu and Kerala State Awards to her credit. Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018 in a Dubai hotel due to accidental drowning.
