The government is retaining the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the list of terrorist groups based on Section 66 B (1) of the Anti Money Laundering, Anti Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFAPUAA 2001), the Dewan Rakyat was told on Tuesday.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said said that when answering a question from Leong Jee Keen (PH-Selayang) who asked the Home Ministry to state how the LTTE, which ceased to exist since 2009, became a national security threat, and why it was not removed from the list of terrorist organisations under AMLATFPUAA.
Ismail Mohamed added that India, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom are among the countries making such listings.
