Mask-wearing Singaporeans wave flags as fighter jets, military vehicles, and helicopters pass by in celebration of the city-state’s 55th year of independence. Small crowds of people wear red and white and gathered in a popular tourist spot to watch as helicopters carrying the national flag flew past iconic buildings. Due to the pandemic, people were encouraged to watch live streams at home instead of gathering in the city center to watch the parade. Singapore’s annual National Day marks its independence from Malaysia in 1965.
