Contempt proceedings were initiated by the Supreme Court against senior advocate Prashant Bhushan. But 131 celebrities, including seven retired judges of the Supreme Court and 2 retired judges of the High Court, have opposed the proceedings. On Wednesday, Justice Ruma Pal, GS Singhvi, A.K. Ganguly, Gopala Gowda, Aftab Alam, Jasti Chelameswar and Vikramjit Sen signed the statement issued on 27 July, expressing solidarity. The statement called for withdrawal of the contempt proceedings initiated against Bhushan and said that this action is an attempt to strangle the criticism.

वरिष्‍ठ अधिवक्‍ता प्रशांत भूषण के खिलाफ अवमानना की कार्यवाही सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने शुरू कर दी. लेकिन सुप्रीम कोर्ट के सात रिटायर्ड जज और हाई कोर्ट के 2 रिटायर्ड जजों सहित 131 हस्तियों ने कार्यवाही का विरोध किया है. बुधवार को जस्टिस रूमा पाल, जी.एस.सिंघवी, ए.के. गांगुली, गोपाला गौड़ा, आफताब आलम, जस्ती चेलमेश्वर और विक्रमजीत सेन ने एकजुटता प्रदर्शित करते हुए 27 जुलाई को जारी किए गए बयान पर हस्ताक्षर किए. बयान में भूषण के खिलाफ शुरू की गई अवमानना की कार्यवाही वापस लेने का आह्वान किया और कहा है कि ये कार्यवाही आलोचना की गला घोटने जैसी कोशिश है.
