Assam floods: 24.50 lakh people affected, one more death takes toll to 86

Nearly 24.50 lakh people continue to remain affected by the floods in Assam after two days of incessant rains. One more flood-related death has been reported from the state taking the toll to 86. Over 4.60 lakh people are affected in Goalpara district alone followed by 3.37 lakh people in Barpeta, 3.34 lakh people in Morigaon, 2.53 lakh people in Dhubri, 1.92 lakh people in South Salmara, 1.14 lakh people in Kamrup (Metro) district. This year’s floods have so far affected over 55 lakh people of 30 districts in the state. The flood situation in the state may turn worse as the Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places in Assam and other neighbouring states in the next few days.
