8월17일 임시공휴일 확정…광복절부터 사흘연휴

The South Korean government has designated August 17th as a temporary holiday for this year.
The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting this morning that was chaired by President Moon Jae-in.
Explaining the decision, he said it's aimed at giving the public a break amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
People will be able to enjoy a three-day break, as the upcoming August 15th Liberation Day falls on a Saturday this year.
We're planning to give people worn out by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic a short, but valuable break. I hope it's a day we don't forget about people who have to work at quarantine sites, those that have to work without a break and those that cannot close their shops or factories.
On the Korean New Deal initiative,... President Moon called for active participation from local governments saying the government also plans to push for locally-led new deal projects.
He said the main aim is to revitalize local economies by creating sustainable jobs and raising the quality of life for residents to achieve balanced development.
Moon added that a meeting will be set up bringing together the mayors and governors of the country's cities and provinces to speed up development.
