Secretary of Defense Mark Esper on Friday deftly dodged an explicit ban on the display of Confederate flags on military installations.
Nevertheless, the Defense Department issued new guidance that lists all flags that can be displayed and depicted. And the Confederate flag was not listed.
According to CNN, the new policy comes amid an ongoing debate about the display of the Confederate battle flag.
As to whether military installations named paying tribute to Confederate officers should be renamed, President Donald Trump has resisted the idea.
The flags we fly must accord with the military imperatives of good order and discipline, treating all our people with dignity and respect, and rejecting divisive symbols. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper
